Cell Phone Mudra

Hasta Mudra is Sanskrit for hand gesture; they are traditionally used for meditation.  After using my phone this morning, I sat down to do my practice and it struck me how the placement of my hands holding my phone, is very similar to this mudra, called Samadhi or dhyana mudra. It helps promote concentration on the positive mental states generated in meditation.  We spend a lot of time focused powerfully on social media. More often than not, the only results are increased anxiety, jealousy and depression.  When we let go of our phones, and let go of focusing on all the stories that swirl up our minds with painful feelings, and instead focus on our breathing, our minds can return to their naturally peaceful states. Try it now. Feel the air traveling through your nostrils. It feel like a cool wind on the inhale and a warm wind on the exhale. Rest and focus your mind here for a few minutes.
